Group presentations

With our second group presentations in the books, it was informative one. We are fortunate enough that we stay within the same group as for our first presentation. A lot less nerves were in the air for all three days of the presentations. All three groups had the opportunity to choose two different topics for us to research and present about. The topic we were going to be researching about were different types of disabilities. We can fairly say that everyone in the class learned so much from all three groups. A lot of interested videos and photos were implemented in the presentations with also different interviews as well.

Group 1 selected to do visual and physical impairments. Both impairments can be a chronic condition and an acute condition. Group 1 presentation on the two topics were very informative and explained well. Both physical and visual impairment can have a great detrimental effect not only on the person that is affected by it but as well as that individual family member or caregiver that is with them. They also spoke about different treatments for both impairments that has been beneficial for the individuals with different impairments such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, spinal bifida, multiple sclerosis, and amputations. For visual impairments can differ from different people, with different symptoms and treatments. Ranging from loss of vision, photophobia, night blindness, to increased loss of peripheral vision.

Group 2 we were gladly to present about autism spectrum disorder and traumatic brain injury. These two disabilities are very similar in their ways. Choosing the two allow our group to research many different things about the disability and to inform everyone about it. The way how someone is diagnosed with it to post-secondary care for them. Much research has been done for the two and many different types of organizations have come together to support the cause, with well known people that has a family member with either TBI or ASD. And I was very fortunate enough to have a friend of mine to do an interview with me and talk about what it is like to work with in individuals with a disability hands on. She did an amazing job talking about what its like to work with them and talk about the field that is not well known. ASD is generally not well known how it is obtained but further research has come closer and closer. And TBI’s can be obtained by a traumatic injury to the head by a physical force or a stoke.

And finally group 3 presentation was about specific learning disabilities and deaf or hard of hearing individuals. Learning that many people can suffer from either or can be very challenging for them. They use a lot of photos and videos to explain their presentation and it was informative. They did a great job on their presentation.

To conclude with all three groups did an amazing job on the presentation. Learning that those individuals with the different types of disabilities can be affected not only for the individual but for their family as well. It takes a lot of patience and understanding how they act and to inform the public about the different types of disabilities. I really enjoyed doing this project with my group and learning from the other two groups.
